POLICE chiefs in South Yorkshire have not been asked to send any more officers to the Olympics, despite concerns that there will not be enough bobbies or security guards available for The Games.

The force cancelled annual leave for the majority of officers earlier in the year and has agreed to second officers to assist with the policing of the Olympics for a total of 999 days.

The most officers out of South Yorkshire at any one time will be 160.

Around 366 South Yorkshire officers will be involved in the operation, with the majority being beat officers, but some specialists have also been called upon including public order officers, firearms experts and those from the mounted and dog sections.
