Police investigate death of motorist found down motorway embankment in South Yorkshire

A POLICE probe is underway into the death of a motorist found behind the wheel of a car down an embankment off the M1 motorway in South Yorkshire.

The 42-year-old, who has not yet been named, was found in a black Seat Leon down the banking at the end of the slip road which joins the southbound carriageway of the M1 near Woodall Services, Rotherham.

A lorry driver spotted the car at 12.50pm yesterday and raised the alarm.

When emergency services arrived the man, from Eckington, was unresponsive to medical treatment and pronounced dead,

Police officers investigating the circumstances surrounding the death want to hear from anyone who may have seen the car leave the road or saw it down the embankment.

Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote incident 425 of July 16.
