Three police workers from Chesterfield have been stepping out to raise funds in memory of two PCs who were murdered on duty in Manchester.
PC Dave Motais, custody detention officer Ian Rowley and PCSO Jane Clawson are taking part in the Run to Remember campaign along with 20 other Derbyshire officers to raise money for the PC Nicola Hughes memorial fund.
PC Hughes and her colleague PC Fiona Bone of Greater Manchester Police were murdered in the city last year after being shot by Dale Cregan when they were called to investigate a burglary.
Bryn Hughes, PC Hughes’s father, launched the initiative and is planning to complete the North Pole Marathon in April.
Every police force in the country was invited to enter a team and raise money in the Run to Remember event.
Each officer has to cover 250 miles over a 125-day period, which started on December 1.
PC Dave Motais said: “I wanted to take part because the incident was so tragic and affected many people.”
