South Yorkshire Police Authority is appealing for new volunteers to check on the welfare of people in custody.
The authority is recruiting new Independent Custody Visitors to check, observe, comment and report on the health of people held in police cells. They will also report back to the authority on the condition of detention facilities.
Anyone aged 18 or over can apply for the voluntary roles. But people ineligible include anyone involved in the criminal justice system - such as magistrates, special constables, and current staff of the police authority.
