POLICE officers are trying to trace the owner of thousands of pounds’ worth of steel which was dumped in a Sheffield garden in the early hours of Sunday.
Around 200 steel rods, used to reinforce concrete on building sites, were left in a garden on Bazley Road, Arbourthorne, at around 3am.
Officers investigating the incident said they have not had any reports of thefts of metal rods which match the items found.
PC Stuart Gibbons said: “We received a call in the early hours of Sunday, from somebody saying they thought scaffolding was getting dropped in the middle of the night.
“When we went out we found around 200 steel rods but nobody knows who they belong to or where they are from.
“We have retrieved them and we are now trying to find the owner. They must weigh around 5,000 tonnes and be worth thousands of pounds but there have been no reported thefts.”
Anyone with information should call 0114 296 3003.
