POLICE in Staveley have launched a crackdown on the illegal use of motorbikes after receiving 19 calls about the problem in under a week.
Officers are carrying out extra patrols aimed at catching riders in hotspot areas including Mastin Moor, Woodthorpe and Brimington.
Police Community Support Officer Sue Cooke said officers had seen an increase in the number of incidents.
“With the warmer weather and lighter evenings we have seen a big increase in the number of nuisance bikers.
“Tackling the nuisance these riders cause is one of our priorities. We need people to ring us as these incidents are happening and we need as much information as possible so we can catch the offenders in the act.”
