Police reassured residents they could still deal with emergency calls after the force was hit with IT problems.
Some servers were down yesterday and staff in some departments were unable to access emails or the internet.
A spokesman said: “South Yorkshire Police is currently experiencing some IT issues which engineers are working to resolve.
“The force is still able to respond to calls from the public on the 999 and 101 systems.
“People should only phone 999 if a life is at risk or a crime is in progress.
“The issue is effecting a number of systems but business continuity plans have been activated to maintain critical functions.”
