A 35-year-old has died after he was involved in a machinery incident while working at a Sheffield steelworks factory.

Police were called to Abbey Forged Products on Beeley Wood Lane, Oughtibridge, at about 8am this morning (Friday) after reports that a member of staff had died.

South Yorkshire Police said it was not yet clear how the death occurred but has launched a joint investigation with the Health & Safety Executive.

The man’s relatives have been informed and a post-mortem investigation is set to take place.

A spokesman said: “South Yorkshire Police and the Health and Safety Executive have launched a joint investigation following the death of a 35-year-old Sheffield man.

“At around 8.10am today, Friday 17 July, police were called to a report of an incident involving machinery at Abbey Forged Products on Beeley Wood Lane in Oughtibridge.

“A 35-year-old man was taken to hospital but sadly died of his injuries.

“A post-mortem is due to be carried out today.”

Abbey Forged Products was contacted but declined to comment.
