MORE than 50 motorists have been cautioned or fined after being caught not wearing seatbelts in a new police crackdown on dangerous driving.

Officers from Derbyshire Police carried out checks on the A61 through Wingerworth and on the motorway at junction 29 near Holmewood.

A total of 53 motorists were pulled over for not wearing a seatbelt, five were stopped for using mobile phones while driving, and seven were made to remove illegal window tints.

Some 13 motorists had their cars taken off the road after they were found to have dangerous defects, and one driver was fined £500 after red diesel was found in his vehicle.
