South Yorkshire Police investigating the death of Christopher Cumpsty, 43, who was found dead at his Balby home on March 11, have released these maps and CCTV images of people they believe may help them to trace his final movements.

A post-mortem examination concluded that he died from multiple injuries.

Today, on the four-month anniversary of Christopher's death, officers investigating his murder have issued several images of people they would like to trace and speak to, as it is believed they may be able to help piece together his final movements.

Detective Inspector Richard Partridge from the Force Crime Unit said: “As we mark four months since the discovery of Christopher in his home with fatal injuries, I’m asking for your help to identify a number of people.

“The first CCTV images show an unidentified man helping Christopher with his white van outside Cusworth House flats in Hyde Park. Christopher was visiting a flat at that location and the footage shows that Christopher was struggling to start his van outside afterwards.

“He walks around the Cusworth House and St James Street area trying to find someone to help him. He walks back to his van with this unidentified man, who helps him get his van started by giving it a push. This footage is time-stamped at 6.06am on March 9 .

“This man had a conversation with Christopher while helping him with his van. Who is this man? What did he talk to Christopher about, did he see Christopher leave in the van?

"He could hold very useful information for our investigation and we want to know what he saw or heard that morning.

“The other images (shown below) show a man and woman walking along Low Road, Balby, before midday on March 9. The man pictured is seen to walk along Low Road at 11.28am and of key significance to this is that around ten minutes later, at 11.40am, Christopher was found laid out injured next to his bicycle on Oliver Road by a member of the public.

"The woman pictured is captured on CCTV walking past the same address on Low Road at around 11.45am, just after Christopher was found injured.

“Oliver Road is right next to Low Road and this is very close to where Christopher lives and where he was eventually found dead two days later.

“That Christopher was found injured so close to where he lives, and so soon before he was found dead, could form a key part of our inquiry and I really need to speak to these two members of the public so I can establish whether they saw or heard anything significant.

“While we are still trying to piece together Christopher’s movements before his death, we know he was subjected to at least one assault in the days leading up to his death. It’s clear he has a number of injuries to his body and ultimately, these injuries killed him.

“I appreciate that some time has passed, but any small detail could be key to us establishing what happened to Christopher.

“As our investigation has progressed, we have come to believe that the answers lie within the local community and I’d urge anyone with information to come forward and tell us what you know.”

Four people remain on bail in connection with the investigation – a 41-year-old woman, a 45-year-old man, a 30-year-old woman and a 17-year-old boy.

All were arrested on suspicion of murder earlier this year.
