Police have appealed for information after a crash on the M1 northbound involving a car and a van.

A man driving a silver Vauxhall Corsa on the M1 northbound near junction 31 at Aston was in collision with a large blue Volkswagen LT panel van, which then left the scene, at about 2.20pm on Thursday, October 25.

The Corsa overturned and came to rest upside down on the central reservation.

The 29-year-old driver, from Nottingham, was taken to Rotherham District General where he was treated for minor injuries and discharged.

The driver of the van, a man from the Rotherham area, was arrested following the incident and is now on police bail.

The incident caused the northbound carriageway and one lane of the southbound carriageway to be closed for a short period of time.

Sgt Steve Askham said: “Incredibly there were no serious injuries from this collision.

“South Yorkshire Police are keen to speak to anybody who was on the M1 at the time, in the area approaching junction 31, who may have seen all or part of the incident.”

n Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting incident number 591 of 25 October 2012.
