The mystery of a South Yorkshire ‘Polce’ car’s missing ‘I’ has been solved.

A photo of a new Vauxhall Astra patrol car with an unfortunate spelling error went viral on social media.

The car had been delivered with the mistake in place and officers spotted the mis-spelling before it hit the streets.

Police had issued a tongue-in-cheek appeal for information leading to the return of the rogue letter, releasing a poster which read ‘Wanted: Have you seen our I?’.

Today, the force reassured concerned members of the public the missing letter had returned home unharmed.

A tweet said: “i’ has been found safe and well in Ireland & now reunited with P,O,L,C & E. Thank you for your support. #needanitest”
