AN EXAM regulator has promised to ‘look closely’ at GCSE English results after widespread problems were reported – including at a number of Sheffield schools.
Yewlands School in Parson Cross, Notre Dame Catholic High School in Ranmoor, King Edward VII School in Broomhill and Silverdale School in Bents Green - as well as a number in Barnsley - were affected by a national ‘drop’ in subject results last week.
Many pupils did not achieve the grades they had expected.
The National Association of Head Teachers has now asked Ofqual to lead an urgent inquiry into the results and the remarking of papers.
Ofqual, which regulates qualifications, examinations and assessments, has said it will look into the marking of English scripts.
