A PARK being restored to former glory for its centenary will feature an outdoor gym and new play equipment thanks to a £25,000 funding boost.
Eastwood Park in Hasland, Chesterfield, is undergoing a revamp to celebrate its 100th birthday next June.
It has now been announced that money from the SITA Trust’s QE2 Fields Fund will provide an outdoor gym and piece of ‘dynamic’ play equipment at the park.
The fund is for sites protected for future generations as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Barbara Arrandale, from the Friends of Eastwood Park, said: “We’re delighted to have secured these funds and we’re sure the local community will get a lot of pleasure out of the new gym and play equipment.”
SITA Trust provides money through the Landfill Communities Fund.
The outdoor gym and play equipment will be installed in the spring, towards the end of the main restoration works at the Park.
New features at the park will include a community garden, rose garden, wildlife area and new trees. The park fountain will be restored and there will be a new multi-use games and play area, as well as other improvements.
Chesterfield Council is working with the Friends group on the refurbishment.
