A NEW playground has been opened in Sheffield as part of a city-wide scheme to improve facilities.
Youngsters enjoying their Easter Holidays have been able to use the facilities at Batemoor Park, one of 12 new playgrounds being built.
Others are Hollinsend Park, Denholme Close, Stannington Park, Herdings Park, Fox Glen, Angram Bank, Chapeltown Park, Woolley Woods, Rivelin Valley, Lowfield, and Burngreave Recreation area.
The projects were under threat after Government funding intended to help pay for them was slashed from £604,248 to £377,655.
Sheffield Council managed to find money from elsewhere in its budget.
Lib Dem Coun Simon Clement-Jones, the authority’s cabinet member for finance said: “It’s great to see local kids using the new equipment.”
