A YOUNG volunteer who has helped people access sport in the community has won recognition for his work.
Daniel West, aged 18, volunteers at Derbyshire charity Sporting Futures, which aims to reduce anti-social behaviour and youth crime with sport and positive activities.
Daniel, from Chesterfield, has volunteered for more than 150 hours, gaining coaching awards and inspiring youngsters to get involved. He is a member of the award-winning Co-operative StreetGames Young Volunteers programme, which trains volunteers aged between 16 and 25 in community leadership and sports coaching.
John Downes, national volunteering programme manager for StreetGames, said: “Daniel has been recognised because of his fantastic work. He has helped many young people in his community to access sport. Without the efforts of volunteers like Daniel, young people wouldn’t be able to access the sport they love at a price, time and place available to them.”
