England’s 10 National Parks have expressed their concerns at Government proposals that put at risk their ability to achieve more affordable housing.

The chairs of all 10 parks have written to Secretary of State for Communities, Eric Pickles MP, asking for changes to the Government’s proposals for reforming planning Section 106 agreements.

The Government consulted earlier this year on introducing a threshold, below which local planning authorities would not be able to require the new housing to be ‘affordable’.

National Park chiefs say that any threshold risks seriously threatening its ability to facilitate affordable housing for local needs, particularly in their smallest and most remote local communities.
