PLANS for almost 600 new homes on derelict land around Sheffield face mixed results when they are considered by councillors next week.
The separate proposals involve 387 homes on the former Parson Cross College site off Remington Road, plus applications by the council-backed Sheffield Housing Company for 142 homes off Falstaff Road, Parson Cross, and 47 homes off Longley Avenue West, Shirecliffe.
All three will be considered at a meeting of Sheffield Council’s west and north planning committee on Tuesday.
The Monteney Road application has been recommended for refusal, because planning officers are unhappy with the design and layout and say the project fails to include enough measures to provide renewable energy for residents.
The proposal by developer Gleeson involves two neighbouring plots - the former Parson Cross college centre, where 237 two, three and four-bedroom homes are planned, while 150 two, three and four-bedroom homes are planned on the plot between Monteney Road and Morrall Road.
The scheme has received 19 objections on the grounds of the number of homes, that the open space would ‘be a focus for anti-social behaviour’ and volume of extra traffic.
Meanwhile, the applications by the Sheffield Housing Company - a consortium involving the council and private developers which aims to build 2,300 new affordable homes across the city - are recommended for approval.
The larger scheme involves 142 homes on land off Falstaff Crescent, Parson Cross, a site which has been empty for about a decade after old council houses were pulled down.
Some 90 per cent of the homes would be for sale at ‘affordable’ prices.
The second plan is for derelict land off Longley Avenue West, Shirecliffe, where 25 homes are planned.
No objections have been made to the Falstaff Road plan, while two have been made over the Shirecliffe scheme, concerning impact of construction traffic and whether the homes would block light to neighbouring properties.
