Pink power for big race

THEY'VE got the power of pink!

Businesswomen dubbed the Pink Ladies enjoyed a spin on the Big Wheel in Sheffield to inspire other ladies to sign up for Race for Life.

The event regulars climbed inside a specially-decorated pink pod for their ride, and were joined by Coun Roger Davidson and Cancer Research UK-funded scientist Prof Gillian Tozer, from The University of Sheffield.

Organisers and wheel staff wore pink t-shirts and handed out flyers to customers and passers-by.

Janet Thornton, director of Janet Thornton Recruitment and one of the founding members of Pink Ladies, said: "Over the years we have all seen friends, young and old, both recover, but also sadly die from cancer.

"I lost my mother when she was just 39 and l feel taking part in Race for Life is a small way of helping find a complete cure for cancer."

The Sheffield races take place this year on June 13, starting and finishing at Don Valley Stadium. Log on to www.raceforlife.org or call 0871 641 1111 to enter.
