A SOUTH Yorkshire butcher has celebrated his first year in business - by creating a brand new pie.

Gary Lomas, of G Lomas Family Butchers in South Anston, Dinnington, near Rotherham, is toasting 12 successful months of trading with his new Steak and Yorkshire Ale Pie.

Gary, a former production manager took the plunge and bought the shop after being made redundant in 2011.

He ploughed his savings into the venture despite the tough economic climate.

But his gamble paid off and in the last year the business has gone from strength to strength.

A culinary creative, he came up with the idea for a birthday pie for customers to try.

Gary said: “It’s been a tough year.

“Starting a new business when times are hard was a risk but I knew if I could sell good quality, local meat and provide a great service then I could do well.

“I hope people will come in and give my birthday pie a try.

Gary added: “It’s true to my roots – matured steak done slowly in Yorkshire ale with a lovely rich puff pastry - it’s a perfect Yorkshire tea.”

Part of his recipe for success was to come up with low-fat, healthy options for weight-conscious customers.

He also created an order and collect service for his customers.
