The annual spectacular of the Haxey Hood is underway.

Hundreds of people have started gathering in the Isle of Axholme for the traditional contest which sees regulars from four pubs in Haxey and Westwoodside push the prized hood towards their favourite watering hole in a muddy marathon.

Drinkers are already singing and joining in the fun at The Loco, Duke William, Kings Arms and Carpenters Arms with the traditional Smoking The Fool ceremony due to take place at the Mowbray Stone in front of the parish church at 2.30pm.

Then the action will switch to the Hood field for this year's spectacular - with The Loco hoping for a repeat of last year's victory in the contest which has been staged in the Isle every year since 1359.

This year sees the arrival of a new Chief Boggin - Phil Palmer has taken up the role and will be joining Lord of The Hood Phil Coggon and Fool Dale Smith for this year's festivities which will kick off at around 3pm.
