Petrol station plan protests

ANGRY Chapeltown residents have protested against plans to demolish a petrol station and replace it with a housing and commercial development.

They complained to Ecclesfield Parish Council about the planning application to demolish the Jet service station in Ecclesfield Road, Chapeltown, and build a three storey mixed development of three commercial units on the ground floor with 16 flats above.

Parish council clerk, Philip Allass, said: "There is a lot of strong feeling and as well as 20 residents protesting at our meeting we have received a petition with over 100 signatures.

"They are claiming this will be overdevelopment of the site and that it will affect road safety on a very busy road."

The parish council has supported the objections.
