Petrol stations are going like pubs, this one on Bramall Lane, pictured left, must be one of the quickest demolition jobs on record. Surely it can’t have gone bust. There’s always a queue for a pump, and a bigger queue to pay for the fuel.
My first forecourt was Meersbrook Garage, not a self-service. After it closed I moved on to Norton Lees garage, also not a self service. The lady attendant would even clean the windscreen if it was dirty. After that closed I went to Queen’s Road Heeley, which was self service.
I can’t remember the price of petrol but I can remember the name of the car, a Vauxhall Victor front bench seat with column change gear lever. My son used to sit in the middle. This also closed down, so down to Bramall Lane and my next will be Chesterfield Road which can only mean longer queues at the forecourt and extra journey time to use it.
