A DEBATE will take place at today’s full meeting of Sheffield Council into the future of children’s centres after 10,000 signatures were collected on a petition.
Funding arrangements are changing from the summer with the Government paying centres for childcare directly, based on enrolment, rather than through a grant handed out via the council.
But there is concern about how the transition will be handled, with parents worried that centres will be short of funding during the summer until the new system takes effect.
Government funding, which pays for 15 hours of childcare each week, will not become available until September.
The full council meeting is being held at the Town Hall from 2pm.
