FESTIVE cheer was on the menu when a Sheffield community group put on a special meal for pensioners.

The event was held at Woodthorpe Tenants’ and Residents’ Association’s (TARA’s) building, Ulley Road, and organised by Woodthorpe Development Trust.

Rysz Szumski, of the trust, said: “We invited groups from the local care homes, the art club, Richmond Walking Group and our over 50s group, as well as some local isolated and vulnerable pensioners. We raised money to hold the event through a tombola, running a Santa’s Grotto at Woodthorpe School’s Christmas fayre and also thanks to a kind donation from Woodthorpe TARA.

“Members of our trust staff cooked and served the meal with help from young volunteers who are involved with the Home Office-funded Communities Against Gangs, Guns and Knives project, which l head up.”

More than 40 elderly people attended the meal.
