A PENSIONER has been left heartbroken after his pet dog was stolen while he was raising money for terminally ill people.
Retired market trader Derek Naylor took his fairground barrel organ to Sheffield city centre in the back of his van. He parked on Surrey Street while he went to busk in Orchard Square in aid of St Luke’s Hospice.
But, when he returned a few hours later, the van had disappeared - with Sam inside it.
Derek, aged 79, of Yorkstone Close, Wybourn, Sheffield, said: “Sam is five years old and a long-haired Dachshund - a sausage dog. He is lovely.
“When I saw the van had gone my heart sank. Now I keep having visons of Sam tied up somewhere all on his own.
“I can write the van off but I am desperate to get Sam back - he is my best friend.”
Anyone with information about the theft of the van - a white Y-registered Fiat Scudo - on Thursday morning is urged to call Derek on 0114 275 4645.
