A PENSIONER is in hospital with serious injuries after he was struck by a car when he stepped into the road at a pedestrian crossing in Sheffield.
The 80-year-old was involved in the collision on the A61 at Shalesmoor, Sheffield, at 9.47pm on Saturday.
Police said he was struck by a silver Peugeot 307 hatchback, driven by a 21-year-old Upperthorpe man, who was travelling towards Gibraltar Street.
As the vehicle passed the junction with Dun Street, the pensioner is reported to have stepped out in front of it at a pedestrian crossing.
A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “The pensioner collided with the car, which swerved towards the nearside pavement and came to a stop. The pensioner then fell from the bonnet onto the road.”
Witnesses should call 101.
