A WOMAN is fighting for life after she was struck by a car as she crossed a road.

The 48-year-old is in the Northern General Hospital with a broken pelvis and head injury, described as life threatening.

She was crossing the A61 Wakefield Road, Barnsley, when she waS hit by a black Honda CRV around 80 metres before the junction of Newstead Road.

A 44-year-old man she was crossing with at the time was also struck and broke his leg.

He was taken to Barnsley District General Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Honda, a 53-year-old Barnsley man, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

Anyone who witnessed the collision at 7pm last night should call South Yorkshire Police on 101. quoting incident 1,055 of December 1.
