A 20-year-old woman is in hospital with serious injuries after she was hit by a car as she walked along a Sheffield street.

The woman was struck on Winter Street, close to the junction with Weston Street, Crookesmoor, by a car which just moments earlier had collided with a cyclist.

Police officers investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident at 8.30pm last night said a blue Chevrolet Matiz was travelling along Winter Street towards Crookes when it collided with a 69-year-old man who was pushing his bike across the road.

There was then a further collision involving the Chevrolet and a blue Volvo V40 travelling in the opposite direction towards the city centre.

The Chevrolet then struck the 20-year-old woman.

Both the pedestrian and cyclist were taken to hospital with the woman most seriously injured.

The drivers of both cars - an 80-year-old man in the Chevrolet and a 25-year-old man in the Volvo - were unharmed.

Witnesses or anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police 101 quoting incident 1,000 of June 10.
