A MAN was taken to hospital with a fractured skull last night after he was struck by a black cab on a Sheffield road.

The 35-year-old, from Mexborough, stepped into the path of a black London Taxi travelling along St Mary’s Gate in the city centre at around 11.45pm.

Police said the pedestrian emerged from the central reservation as the cab, driven by a 38-year-old Sheffield man, was travelling towards the Bramall Lane roundabout from the direction of Ecclesall Road.

It is believed that the pedestrian was using his mobile phone at the time of the collision.

The pedestrian was taken to the Northern General Hospital.

Witnesses should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident 1,253 of January 28 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
