SHE will go to the ball.

Animal lover Wendy Wilkinson hopes to arrive in her home city on Friday night in good time to attend the RSPCA Sheffield Charity Ball.

She’s on her way from London so you’d expect her to make it on time – except she’s riding her bike the entire way.

Wendy, aged 49, who grew up in Woodthorpe and City Road, now lives in Greenwich, London, and set off on her ride on Tuesday.

She said: “I now live in London but I continue to support the Sheffield branch. It is a charity close to my heart and I have a long association with the centre. The charity really needs the extra funds.

“I have always supported them since I first volunteered at the age of 17 at its old Spring Street site.

“My mum got our family dogs from RSPCA Sheffield years ago – a gorgeous cross-Labrador called Tess and a cross-border collie called Max.

“We really loved those dogs and it felt good to rescue an animal rather than perhaps just have gone to a breeder. So many animals need adopting and the centre is the perfect place to go.”

Wendy hopes to arrive in plenty of time to check into her hotel and get ready for the ball at 7.30pm at Baldwin’s Omega.
