Police are reminding visitors to beauty spots in Derbyshire to do their bit to deter opportunist thieves.

Officers said a number of thefts from vehicles had been reported in the Hathersage area by visitors who had headed out on walks or camping trips.

Regular police patrols are being carried out to deter thieves and remind people to secure vehicles and remove valuables from display.

The latest incident happened between 6.30pm and 8.40pm on Sunday, July 22 when a Mazda was broken into at Upper Burbage Bridge, Ringinglow Road, Hathersage and a handbag was stolen.

At around 11.30pm the previous evening a BMW 3 Series parked in a lay by off Sheffield Road, between the turning for Ringinglow Road and the Surprise View Car Park in Hathersage was broken into and a camera and a pair of sunglasses were stolen.
