Paul to lead Rotherham regeneration

Paul Woodcock has been appointed director of planning and regeneration for Rotherham Council.

Mr Woodcock has worked in local government for 15 years, driving forward massive regeneration programmes such as the Thames Gateway in London, before moving to Rotherham, where he was Rotherham Investment and Development Office's business development manager before being seconded to the chief executive's office and then becoming interim director of RiDO when its chief, Richard Poundford, moved to head regeneration in Stockton-on-Tees.

His new role brings together RiDO and Planning and Transportation.

Mr Woodcock said: "It's a fantastic time to have been appointed to this position. Rotherham is going through an enormous period of change, with the Renaissance programme set to transform the town centre just as the old industrial areas have been transformed.

"Rotherham's increasingly proving itself to be a centre for high-quality and high-tech businesses that in many cases are world leaders in their fields.

"We recognise the challenges ahead but are confident that the council's partnership approach and strong relationships with the private sector, together with our ambitious plans, will allow us to build on our continually growing reputation. This is a message of hope not just for companies but for the people of the borough."
