AROUND 20 patients were evacuated from a hospital ward in Rotherham today after a fire broke out in the early hours.

The blaze broke out in an office on a second floor ward at Rotherham District General Hospital.

Firefighters were called at 3.05am and found flames in an office.

Staff evacuated patients to other wards before firefighters arrived.

The fire involved electrical cables and flames spread to some paperwork.

A fire door prevented it spreading to the ward, but smoke filtered through.
