a SECTION of towpath on the canal between Sheffield and Tinsley has come to fruition - with work funded by a £38,000 National Lottery grant.
The Tinsley Towpath Access Project has been completed, with the upgraded walkway opened by Sheffield Council deputy leader Coun Brian Lodge and Sheffield South East MP Clive Betts.
Neil Parry of Sheffield East End Quality of Life Initiative said: “Tinsley Forum was successful in bidding for £38,000 from Big Lottery Community Spaces to improve the towpath between Tinsley and Meadowhall and the tram stop.
“A wildflower meadow has been planted, better lighting, benches and interpretation boards have been installed, and the towpath has been resurfaced, while overgrown vegetation has been removed.
“We hope the improvements will encourage more Tinsley residents to explore the waterways as well as use the tram and access Meadowhall.”
