HOMELESS families will receive a visit from Santa this Christmas thanks to the kind-hearted efforts of South Yorkshire Housing Association staff.

Customer service assistant Pat Myrie has recruited a team of helpers to deliver gifts to tenants. Pat, who has worked for SYHA for 25 years, has been organising Santa’s visits for 10 years to ensure every child in SYHA homeless accommodation over Christmas does not go without a gift.

This year she is hoping there will be enough donations to ensure everyone, no matter what their age, has a special something to open.

SYHA estimates there will be 160 homeless families staying with them over the festive period this year and approximately 250 under 18s.

To pay for the presents, Pat has been raising funds, including £235 through holding a deli-day at work, where staff made and sold treats.

Pat, who also runs Visions of Charity, a fund sending items and gifts to children in Africa and Jamaica, said: “I am hoping everyone staying in our homeless projects, no matter what their age, has something to make them smile.”

To donate to help Pat buy presents, call 0114 2900200 or visit SYHA offices on Wellington Street, Sheffield.
