A TEAM of ‘street pastors’ is in training to keep people safe in the town centre at night in Chesterfield.
The volunteers are inter-denominational Christians who will patrol the streets to help reduce violence and anti-social behaviour.
A minimum of four will work every Saturday from 10pm to 4am.
They are expected to be ready to work this summer.
Similar schemes operate elsewhere in the country.
Inspector Steve Ball, of Derbyshire Police, said: “The street pastors will be a friendly and calming influence in the town centre.”
