An MP says he has been deluged with complaints about the processing of passports.
Eight people have contacted Barnsley East MP Michael Dugher as their applications have not been completed within the expected three week time frame.
He has now submitted a Freedom of Information request to discover how many passport applications have failed to be processed within three weeks in the last three months in a bid to uncover the scale of the problem.
He said: “This is simply not good enough. “People in Barnsley should be able to rely on HM Passport Office to process their applications in the time frame they set out on their website.
“These delays have caused people great distress, many of whom have been very concerned that they could miss their family holiday.
“Hopefully my FOI request will uncover the true extent of the problems at HM Passport Office.
In the meantime, I would advise anyone who needs to renew their passport to do so well in advance.
