Passengers were evacuated from a train in South Yorkshire after a fire broke this morning.

The fire at Darton railway station was discovered in a train carriage at 9am.

A British Transport Police spokeswoman said the fire was the result of a 'technical fault'.

She said: “Our officers were called to Darton station, Barnsley, shortly after 9am following reports of a fire on a train.

“Colleagues from South Yorkshire Fire Service also attended and the fire, believed to be the result of a technical fault, was extinguished.
