Fire chiefs are recruiting part time firefighters to work at stations across the county on an ‘on-call’ basis.
There are vacancies for crew members at Dearne fire station, Penistone, Stocksbridge, Askern and Rossington.
Part time firefighters deal with the same incidents and use the same fire engines and equipment as full time firefighters but they respond to calls from home or work.
A South Yorkshire Fire Service spokesman said: “As an on-call firefighter you would be paid a retaining fee along with an additional payment for every incident you attend.
“You would also be required to attend several hours of training every week, for which a payment is also made.
“Being an on-call firefighter is like having a part-time job - you have to commit to certain hours and you get paid for them.”
Applicants must 18 years old or live or work less than five minutes away from a station.
A number of information days are to be held over the next few weeks for anyone interested in finding out more.
