A new parking scheme is set to boost trade in an area of Sheffield, with the prospect of being rolled out city-wide.
Parking Payback will give visitors to Broomhill access to discounts from independent shops using their pay-and-display tickets.
The scheme, which kicks off on Monday, has been launched following a surge in the number of supermarkets in the area. Local traders say shoppers can effectively get back their parking spend through the promotions on offer.
Meanwhile, Sheffield Council has agreed to bring back free parking in the city centre in the countdown to Christmas.
Two years ago, the council sparked controversy by scrapping a scheme which gave motorists free slots on Wednesdays and Saturdays. City bosses have now agreed to allow vehicles to use council car parks and on-street bays at no charge after 3pm on the next three Wednesdays.
Coun Leigh Bramall, in charge of business, said: “It’s important to support local business and people.”
