Devastated parents have rallied round in support of a Sheffield nursery destroyed in an arson attack.

Police have confirmed they are treating the blaze at Bizzy Bees Family Childcare Centre off School Road in Beighton as arson.

Five fire engines were sent to the blaze at 6.30pm last night and crews remained at the scene until 10.45pm.

Police have appealed for witnesses who saw anything suspicious to come forward.

Inspector Jason Booth, of Sheffield South East Local Policing Team ,said: “The fire has caused significant damage to the children’s facility but I would like to reassure residents that we are pursuing various lines of enquiry to identify those responsible.

“I would encourage anyone who has any information or who saw anything suspicious in the area at the time of the incident to get in touch with the police.”

The fire, which gutted much of building, has sparked a huge response on social media to donate toys and help with the clean up.

Lisa Burgin, nursery manager, said the team were doing everything they can to return to normality.

“I’d like to say thank you to all the parents for their good wishes and please bear with us, we’re trying our best to get temporary accommodation set up as soon as we can.”

A South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said no people were involved in the fire and nobody was injured.

The last message sent back from fire crews at 7.50pm said that the external fire had been put out and officers were attempting to get inside.

An aerial appliance was also sent to the scene.

Many concerns parents offered support to the nursery on social media in wake of the blaze.

Michelle Hudson posted: “Really really terrible news so sad. If I can help in any way let me know so sorry about it the girls are going to be so upset.”

Katie Joanne Gambles added: “The best nursery ever. If there’s anything is mums can do to help we would love to help.”

Ann Crookes said: “I am having a clear out of my 5-year-olds toys. Let me know where I can drop any thing that may help get you back up & running

Sheffield South East local policing team said they were investigating the cause of the blaze.

Inspector Booth added: “We are remaining in Beighton today making enquiries into the fire at the playgroup premises that occurred yesterday evening.”
