Paraglider hurt during crash landing in Peak District

A paraglider suffered neck and facial injuries during a landing near to the summit of Mam Tor, near Castleton.

The 49-year-old man was helped at the scene by members of Buxton and Edale mountain rescue teams and an RAF and North West Ambulance Service Technician, who were nearby at the time.

Once the casualty was stabilised he was airlifted to the Major Trauma Centre, at the Northern General Hospital, Sheffield.

A Buxton mountain rescue team spokesman said: “Due to the casualty’s location and nature of injuries an aerial evacuation was requested.”
