A CEREMONY, service and parade to commemorate the Battle of Britain and the Battle of Arnhem takes place in Sheffield on Sunday, September 16.
The parade will assemble in Holly Street, next to the City Hall, at 2pm and march into Barker’s Pool at 2.30pm where the Last Post and Reveille will be sounded and wreaths laid. A service in Sheffield Cathedral will start at 3pm and a parade and march past the saluting base outside Cutlers Hall will follow.
Present and past members of the armed services and the public are invited to join the tribute to those involved in the battles in 1940 and 1944 – many of whom survive and still bear the physical and emotional scars.
The parade will be led by Oughtibridge Brass Band and the service will be attended by The Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire, The Lord Mayor and the Lady Mayoress.
