A lorry carrying hundreds of tins of paint crashed down an embankment near Todwick.

The articulated lorry, which was carrying 5,000 litres of emulsion in 2.5 litre cans when it left the road near Lindrick Golf Club, Lindrick Dale and overturned.

The accident happened when the lorry was travelling along the A57 Worksop Road, between Todwick and Worksop, at about 10.50am this morning.

Firefighters from Darnall, Anston and Worksop raced to the scene and found the driver trapped in the cab of the lorry.

He was cut free by fire crews and was flown to hospital by the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire air ambulance.

Motorists faced lengthy tailbacks as emergency services spent several hours clearing the scene.

Some of the hundreds of can of paint spilled across the road and had to be cleared by fire crews.

The Environment Agency was also notified over concerns that some of the paint may run into the Chesterfield Canal, which runs close to where the accident happened.
