A PLEA has gone out to people to lend a hand to help clear up a Sheffield suburb blighted by litter.

Brendan Ingle, his boxers, councillors and residents in Wincobank are joining forces to give a spring clean to a section of the Trans Pennine Trail between Meadowhall Interchange and Fife Street.

The first clean-up is tomorrow, between 8.30am and 1pm.

Anyone wishing to take part should meet at the Travelodge hotel on Barrow Road.

The second day of work will be on Monday, at the same times, meeting at the old Foundry Arms pub at the bottom of Newman Road.

Refreshments will be provided by St Thomas’ Church, on Newman Road. People taking part will also be given litter pickers and gloves to keep their hands clean.

Brendan said: “It upsets me to see such a beautiful area spoiled. It is a popular route for walkers, runners and cyclists and yet all you focus on is the rubbish. Everyone is welcome to come along and help with the clean-up days.”
