HE might have helped seal Sheffield Wednesday’s place in the Championship, but midfield dynamo Jose Semedo has another reason to smile.
After a hard season spent assisting the Owls in their bid for promotion, the club captain made the most of his summer break by flying out to his native Portugal to get hitched.
The 27-year-old, who became a firm fan favourite with Owls after signing with the boys in blue and white in July last year, tied the knot with bride Soraia in his native country.
Former Charlton Athletic player Semedo was born in the nearby city of Setúbal, but he and his wife-to-be chose to have their wedding in the nearby capital Lisbon.
The lavish affair was glamorous enough to rival the footballers’ weddings which are a regular fixture in the UK’s glossy magazines, as bride Soraia dazzled in a princess-like gown with a beaded bodice, while Semedo looked sharp in a shiny grey suit.
Any anxious Owls fans can rest assured that the honeymoon period was short-lived and the player jetted back well in time to prepare for the new season.
A spokesman for Sheffield Wednesday said the club did not wish to comment as it was a personal matter.
