Owls claim victory over Blades – but Bluebell Wood's the winner

IT was a derby with a difference.

The Owls beat the Blades 2-1 after a thrilling end-to-end game - but this wasn't Bramall Lane or Hillsborough but Woodbourne stadium in Attercliffe.

And the fans weren't watching the match – they were in it!

A group of friends linked to the Sheffield and District Fair Play League enjoyed a good kickabout as reds or blues and raised more than 300 for Bluebell Wood Hospice in North Anston.

Organiser Iain Atkins, aged 17, of Fox Hill, Wadsley Bridge, said: "It was a fun way to raise money for a good cause. I thought playing as the Owls and the Blades would be a good way for people to get sponsored."

Phil Cowley and Leigh Richmond put the Owls two up while Sam Sampson got one back for the Blades.
