South Yorkshire history is certainly on Sheffield Wednesday's side going into this weekend's Championship play-off final - as long as you discount Sheffield United.

All five of the region's clubs have taken part in play-off finals over the last decade - and all of them have tasted promotion, apart from the Blades, whose woeful play-off performances make them one of the worst performing teams in the end of season soccer spectacle.

Rotherham United, Barnsley, Doncaster Rovers and the Owls themselves have all been promoted through the play-offs since 2005 - while United are the only South Yorkshire time never to have tasted glory, despite taking part an incredible eight times - and losing four finals.

Here's the rundown on South Yorkshire's play-off history

ROTHERHAM UNITED

The Millers are the club to have tasted success most recently. They won the 2014 League One play-off final at Wembley after coming from 2-0 down against Leyton Orient, taking the match to 2-2, extra time and an eventual penalty shoot-out win which fired them to the Championship.

DONCASTER ROVERS

Rovers' moment of joy came in 2008 when a solitary goal by striker James Hayter was enough to defeat Yorkshire rivals Leeds United in the League One play-off final which promoted them to the Championship in front of a 75,000 crowd. It is the only time so far the club has taken part in the play-offs - with a 100% success rate.

BARNSLEY

The Tykes were elevated from League One to the Championship in 2006 when they enjoyed a penalty shoot out win over Swansea City after the game at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium had ended 2-2.

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY

The Owls are no strangers to play-off final glory, winning the 2005 League One play-off final, seeing off Hartlepool United 4-2 after extra time at the Millennium Stadium, which was used for games during Wembley's redevelopment.

SHEFFIELD UNITED

And so to the poor old Blades - the only South Yorkshire team never to have been promoted through the play-offs. The Blades have taken part eight times now - and failed in each attempt. Defeats has been tasted in the final four times - 1997, 2003, 2009 and 2012 with other unsuccessful attempt in 1988, 1998, 2013 and 2015.
