A THEATRE group for performers aged over 50 is being launched in Sheffield.
Sheffield University PhD student Bridie Moore is launching the group to explore the representations and experiences of older people.
It will form a central part of her research into performances of age and ageing.
Bridie, who has more than 30 years’ theatre experience, said: “It is well known we have an ageing population, so the way older people are represented on stage and in the media is of growing interest.
“This group will offer older people a chance to explore ways in which they are and would like to be represented.
“Across the country there are many young people’s theatres that explore the ways under 25s feel about society and life in general. It’s about time older people were given a similar opportunity.”
Passages Theatre Group will develop performances to be staged over the next two years and Bridie hopes to secure funding for the group to continue beyond her project.
The launch is on Thursday, October 4, at 10am, in Studio 1 at the university’s theatre department, Shearwood Road. For details, call 07811 812982.
